Photo of the week 4

This was a close friend to me, Andre. I met him in algebra 2 last year. One summer night last year I saw on someone’s Snapchat story “RIP ANDRE”. I couldn’t believe it. So I texted that person and sadly it was true, Andre had committed suicide. I was in denial, I even tried to text him over and over hoping it was a joke. The first couple of months consisted of a lot of crying and confusion. Andre was a happy person, always lifting people up. I don’t understand it. But sometimes even the happiest people can hide their troubles in their smiles.

Fake News

In both articles: “Lessons from The New York Times Super Tuesday hoax: Five ways to spot fake news” and “Bushfires, bots and arson claims: Australia flung in the global disinformation spotlight“, they describe how much fake news has been distributed around the world and how it has impacted nearby communities. Fake news also known as “hoaxes” aren’t always just on the web, some people have handed out fake versions of New York Times articles. Its very easy to be fooled online and these hoaxes can have serious impacts.

In the article: “Lessons from The New York Times Super Tuesday hoax: Five ways to spot fake news”, it says that, “Just a few weeks ago a pro-Palestinian group handed out fake versions of the New York Times to highlight what it believes is the Time’s bias against Palestinians. In 2008 the Yes Men distributed thousands of copies of a 14-page fake New York Times all over New York City. The paper declared the end of the Iraq war on the front page.” People are going as far as fake news articles to distribute fake news to the public. This article also gives five ways to help people make sure they don’t get duped by a fake website. It states: to check the URL, check the style, find out who shared it, and do a whols search.

Both of these articles address the importance of taking action against fake news and how careful you really have to be. I agree with it because there have been fake news about schools before. For example, some say schools closed due to viruses spreading, some say random crazy things supposedly coming from administrations to students and parents. Its really something that has to be stopped.

“Americanized” Mexican Food

It was my 19th birthday a few days ago and I really wanted to be able to have a dinner. I didn’t get many birthdays of mine celebrated in the past so I wanted to just eat and have fun. It took me days to decide what I wanted to eat and coincidentally the morning of my birthday I swore I did not want Mexican food.

I come from Texas so a lot of Mexican food around here or really anywhere other than Texas or Mexican/Latin countries isn’t really Mexican food. I call the Mexican food here “americanized”. Basically down south every Mexican dish that’s made whether your in a small family restaurant or a big expensive restaurant, everything is made from pure passion. It’s about their culture, it’s what they grew up doing. All the food comes from their heart, soul, and mind. In America, we don’t have the experience or culture to really make it the way it’s meant to be made. For example, Taco Bell. It’s Mexican based food, but is it really Mexican? No. Some actual Mexican restaurants like Totopos, La Padilla, or Tequila are better and good really good, but it’s still “Americanized”. The tortillas aren’t always made by hand, or the rice isn’t right.

A lot of people don’t understand where I come from with Mexican restaurants but I had a real experience with true Mexican food and nothing can beat that. But this dish I had. It reminded me of home back in Texas. It was so good, I couldn’t give one complaint, and that was amazing. #photooftheweek4

“New Voices”

In PODCAST: New Voices 2020 preview and Student Press Freedom Day — Jan. 29, 2020, they both talk about how students should be able to express themselves in what they want to talk about or write about. How free speech shouldn’t just be allowed outside of school but inside as well. Many administrators or teachers are image-conscious or imitated to self-censor “controversial” topics that matter to their peers and community.

14 states have passed a legislation called “New Voices” to protect student rights to free speech and prevent against their advisors. This event is free and is in a partnership with the National Archives.

Photography

I have taken an interest in photography, for example this one I’m most proud of. Photography for me is capturing the beautiful moments nobody catches, capturing things nobody pays attention to. It’s something that really makes me happy to do. I do a lot of different kinds of photography: plants, animals, people, or just our beautifully amazing planet in general.

Tik Tok

Before it was Tik Tok, it was musically. An app that was for making videos of songs and doing transitional tricks with your phone. But once it was bought out and made as Tik Toc it became something totally different. Now it is more as a meme app or for funny videos. Lots of young teens are getting famous over an app that is just about videos and how you do them. And some educators are pro Tik Tok. They think that it engages students to work together and can help prevent bullying. There are a lot of positive messages on this app. A lot talk about how you should always believe your beautiful or there are quotes that talk about love and what it should be like, or how to deal with an heartbreak. Most videos show teens they are not alone in the things they feel they are. #renegade

How writing changed my life

I learned the truth about my past from when I was too young to remember, and many other things. Facing these problems helped me in a lot of problems I was having at the time. It gave me the opportunity to sit down and write about the problems and think of ways I could fix them. All of this not only helped me as a person but also in my writing. Everyone who knows my story, even Writing has always been a strong suit for me because of the experiences I’ve had. I feel like when you’ve been through a lot as a person it gives you an advantage to your writing. Not only can you relate to many topics, but you can put more feeling into your writing as well.

I starting writing when I was in elementary school. Back then I didn’t have the experiences I have today, but I still had the passion to write. At one point I had even joined the Writing Club. I went to all kinds of writing contests where I would be given topics to write about and have to come up with something. Each round there was one topic and we would have to write at least a page or more, if you made it passed that round you would move on to the next one and so on. That’s where I really learned how to write better. Later on I moved and didn’t have the writing club anymore, so I started writing either to myself, in my diary, or to other people in letters that were never delivered. It allowed me to get my emotions out by getting them on paper. It helped me with depression, anxiety, and made me feel better everyday.

As I got older I went through many obstacles in my life. I learned the differences between a poor society and a wealthy one, I learned what it’s like to be abandoned by your own family twice, some of my previous English teachers have said, “Wow, that would be an amazing book!” and they would be correct. At one point I even started a blog with chapters of my life and what I’ve experienced. I had to hide the blog from my dad, because if he found it he would get mad then delete it. I hid it for a while but eventually he found out. Someone had sent the blog to him, as expected, he went to my profile and deleted it. I still remember somewhat of what I wrote in them, but sometimes I wish I still had it because it would be easier to write a book if I did.

I think a major goal of mine has always been to write a book about my life and what I’ve been through. I’ve started some of it, but I feel like I need more experience in writing to make it better. I’ve decided that I would have two to three books total all relating to one whole story.

When I go to write this book about my life, I’m going to write it in first person point of view. I believe if the audience is reading it as if they are the character in the book they will enjoy it, and relate to it more than if they were reading it in 3rd person point of view. I want to write it where they can relate because maybe they will get the inspiration to start writing, mainly because I know other kids have a lot of family problems, and I feel like this book will help them out. I also want to write it in first person point of view because I want to be able to relive the things I write about so it comes from the heart, not only that but so it will have more feeling in it. If you can’t feel what you’re writing or can’t relate to it by heart what’s the point of writing it? That’s just the way I think of it.

From all that I can remember this is my history with writing. I’m so glad I started writing at a young age, because I can gladly say it helped me a lot and changed me as a person. I am extremely happy about this book I am starting to write. And I can’t wait for more exciting adventures in my life, that I can eventually write about. Who knows, maybe even some day I will publish the stuff I write about.
